The quality of the data collected in aeromagnetic surveys is largely dependent on the quality of compensation. In the absence of good compensation, the anomaly signals detected by high- sensitivity modern magnetometers can be completely masked out by the interference of the nearby magnetics of the aircraft.

The aircraft's magnetic interference is related to its motions about its principal axes. A mathematical model may be built to accurately represent the aircraft's magnetic signature. Careful optimization and implementation of this model, within the framework of sophisticated hardware and firmware technologies, can lead to real-time compensation that effectively eliminates the aircraft's magnetic interference.

The RMS Instruments' family of Adaptive Aeromagnetic Real-Time Compensators provide real-time compensation of local magnetic interference from the aircraft, to the point where the full resolution of modern high-sensitivity magnetometers can be utilized. The various models available have been designed for optimal support of a broad range of applications.

Conventional, fixed-wing and helicopter platforms

The DAARC500 offers the ultimate in real-time aeromagnetic compensation combined with comprehensive and flexible data acquisition and recording. It supports up to 8 high-sensitivity magnetometer inputs and virtually any ancillary instrumentation used in geophysical and environmental survey applications.

The AARC500 focuses on the real-time aeromagnetics and compensation, for up to 8 high-sensitivity magnetometer inputs. It includes also basic general-purpose data acquisition capabilities.

The AARC510 has a compact and light form factor, suitable for strap-down installation. It supports real-time magnetics and compensation for up to 4 high-sensitivity magnetometer inputs, and provides limited general-purpose data acquisition functionality.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platforms

The AARC51 and AARC52 have been designed for installation in UAV platforms. While very compact (133 x 133 x 216 mm) and light (< 2 Kg), they offer the same level of performance for real-time magnetics and compensation as other members of the family. They support one (AARC51) or two (AARC52) high-sensitivity magnetometer inputs, and require less than 3.5 A at +28 VDC, including the sensors. Basic general-purpose data acquisition is also included. While specifically targeted to UAV applications, the AARC51/52 are also perfectly suited for conventional fixed-wing or helicopter platforms.
